How to use Hubl —
Logging Wastage
Wastage is where you record anything thrown away — a dropped plate, a burnt batch, stock past its use-by date. Each entry takes seconds, and Hubl works out the cost for you. Here’s the whole flow.
One entry, four quick fields
Every wastage entry is the same short form — an Item and its Details. Fill these four things and you’re done:
Pick what was wasted from your product catalogue.
Type how much — the unit is set by the product itself.
Why it was wasted — spillage, dropped, burnt and more.
Your initials, and the date & time it happened.
Products & Allergens
Add your products first
Wastage is always logged against a product, and the search only lists your Products & Allergens catalogue — so if what you’re throwing away isn’t in there yet, add it first. In the app it takes a minute (you can also manage products from the reporting dashboard):
- Open the menu (☰) and tap Products & Allergens, then the + button.
- Fill in the Basics — name, a Category (Food, Ingredient, Drink or Other) and a Unit (mg, g, kg, oz or lb).
- Enter the Cost per unit — this is what prices your wastage entries.
- Set the Dietary flags (Vegan / Vegetarian — Yes, No or Not sure) and list the Ingredients.
- Mark the Allergens: tap an icon once for Contains, again for May contain, once more to clear.
- Tap Create product — it’s instantly available to the wastage search.

Log a wastage entry
With your products in place, open Wastage from the menu (☰) — or tap the orange Wastage card on the Overview screen, which shows what’s been logged today.
- Tap the green + button to start a new entry.
- Search Product and pick the item from the list — the Unit fills in by itself.
- Enter the Quantity wasted.
- Pick a Reason and add your Initials.
- Check When — it defaults to right now.
- Tap Log wastage. You’ll see “Wastage logged” and the entry appears in Recent with its cost.

Track what waste is costing you
The three counters at the top of the Wastage screen — Today, This week, This month — keep a running cost total. Below them, three tabs show the detail:
- Recent — every entry with the product, reason, quantity, when it happened, who logged it and what it cost.
- This week — a chart of the week’s waste, broken down by category (Food, Ingredient, Drink, Other) in pounds and percentages.
- This month — the same breakdown across the month, so you can spot where the money is really going.
The Wastage card on the Overview screen shows today’s total at a glance — tap it any time to jump straight in.
Quick answers
The search only shows your Products & Allergens catalogue. Add the product there first and it appears in the wastage search straight away.
Hubl multiplies the quantity you enter by the product’s cost per unit — you never have to price an entry yourself.
Yes — tap the When field before you log and set the actual date and time with the picker.
The unit belongs to the product (kg, g, lb…), so it stays locked until you’ve chosen what was wasted — then it fills in automatically.
